HYPOCHLOROUS ACID
A secret weapon in the war against bacterial infections and preventable death.
WHAT?
Hypochlorous acid (HOCL) is a naturally occurring small molecule generated by White Blood Cells during an oxidative burst designed to kill pathogens. This is a highly active microbiocidal agent against all bacterial, viral and fungal pathogens. Our hypochlorous acid (HOCL) products mimic the ability of the human body's immune system to kill all virus and bacteria.
Specifically, DeCou Solutions offers EPA registered, FDA, CDC and USDA approved products with 10 second 99.99% kill rates while remaining environmentally friendly and not harmful to humans or animals.
Actions of HOCL as a primary role in biocidal killing are as follows:
- Rapid inhibitory effects on RNA and DNA synthesis;
- Reacts with bacterial membrane components which are essential for cell division and disrupts/burst cell membrane;
- Disrupts membrane/DNA interactions needed for replication;
- Alters DNA template itself;
- Inactive enzymes of the replication system;
- Inhibits synthesis of critical proteins required for DNA replication and/or cell division;
- Reacts with a variety of biomolecules including sulfhydryl groups, protein amino groups, lipids, nucleotides; and
- inhibits glucose oxidatin.
Studies have shown that low concentrations of hypochlorous acid exerts rapid and selective inhibition of bacterial growth and cell division. HOCl's bacteriacidal activity is rapid. Further lab studies show HOCl neutralizes toxins and appears to sto the spread of disease including necrotizing fasciitis.
Hypochloros acid is non-toxic and non-irritating to mucous membranes, in the Ames assay test, HOCl is shown not to be mutagenic.
There are health hazards associated with handling aldehydes, i.e. glutaralde hyde and quuarternary ammonium compounds with subsequent compensatin payments for allergies, occupational asthma and dermatitis. These products are toxic, irritant and sensitizing to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Glutaraldehyde is only slowly effective against mycobactera and spores. Contact time is 20 minutes for high evel disinfection and 10 hours for sterilization.
The newer quartenary disinfectants are comparable to glutaraldehyde in its bacteriacidal activity as well as its health risks. They are expensive and effective against some enteroviruses and spores, but not all. These products are also corrosive, damaging to endoscopes, processing equipment and te environment.
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) gas and Ultraviolet light (UV) are dangerous to people and animals.
Hypochlorous acid has a higher oxidizing potential than H2O2, is a stronger germicidal agent, is cost effective and an attractive alternative to aldehydes and quarternary compounds. HOCl meets all AOAC testing standards and all OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen guidelines.
